Nanping is a small city located in north eastern Fujian province and is two hours drive from the famous Wuyi Mountain. As we have never been there before, we have little knowledge about Nanping except that we know it is a perfecture-level city. We search through the internet for information about Nanping, and found that there are only two overnight trains that stop at Nanping. So we book two hard sleeper train tickets on Train NO. K525 and took the overnight trains from Hangzhou to Nanping.
After taking ten hours of long-haul overnight train,we finally arrived at Nanping North Station in the morning. We were very excited to see this small city , though we had a very bad experience and feel uncomfortable about the train journey.
Nanping is a picturesque old city surrounded by the Minjiang River and the Jianxi River. Similar to Chongqing which is a municipal city, Nanping is a city built on the hills. All the buildings stand along the hills and is diffciult to find a flat and wide road in Nanping. The foggy weather is the unique character of the mountain city and we see the heavy fog floating above the city which feel like we are in heaven. As we exit from the train station, we took a taxi to Nanping city to meet our friend and then take a private car togethter to their village–Liujiacun.
Driving in Nanping is a hard job for visitors, as the road is uneven and have to drive along the winding mountain path. I am grateful that we have reached their village safely.
Liujiacun, means Liu Family village, is a peninsula in Minjiang River. It is also called Carp Island, due to the shape of the village. The air is so fresh here that we decide to take a walk and visit the Taoist temple in the village and see the landscape nearby.
It seems time was passing slowly and everything here is peaceful. In the sea, we see fishermen casting their nets from their boats and sometimes we see cargo ships passing-by.
At noon, the wedding banquet starts and the.chefs are busy preparing the food outdoor. We taste the delicious foods and the drinks served by the host. There are many foods with a total of 20 different dishes including beef, lamb, shrimp, crab which we really enjoy very much.
While we are busy eating our foods, the bride and bridegroom are busy toasting with their guests one by one. The bride wears a traditional dress, a golden ring on her finger and a necklace around her neck, while the bridegroom is dressed in a western suit and looks very handsome on this occasion.
We enjoy the food and atmosphere at the wedding banquet and by 3pm we are driven back to Nanping city and then heads to the train station to take our train K164 back to Hangzhou. We really had a very good weekend getaway in Nanping.
