A Visit to Kinmen and Penghu, Taiwan (Part Two)

After taking 40 minutes ferry, we finally arrive at Shuitou port of Kinmen. It seems the air in Kinmen is fresher than in Xiamen,as there are few people, less traffic and less construction in Kinmen. Everything here is quite different from Xiamen, You can see the traditional Chinese characters everywhere.

As we are from Fujian Province, China,  we apply the visa on the entry which is only permit to visit Kinmen, Penghu and Matsu region of Taiwan. After paying NT200 for per visa, we then passed the custom and formally enter Kinmen, Taiwan. The first thing we did was to pass two bags of mushroom to the right person. Fortunately, it is easy to recognize the right person at the right place. This is a good old guy and he recommend a driver to us after he knew we would head to Shangyi Airport for the plane to Penghu.

Though his car is  an old black Mercedes-Benz,it is still  very clean and comfortable with spacious room. He said the taxi charge between ferry port and airport is NT300 and he will just charge us for NT200. Along the way, he talk us about Kinmen history, developement, his army life experience in Kinmen. About 20 minutes we arrived in Shangyi airport . When we said farewell to our driver, I took a picture for him and  promise d putting his photos on my article.

It was only 9am when we arrived at the airport. As our flight would depart at 12:50, we have 3 hours spare time to spend in Kinmen. So we decided to check in first, and then go out to stroll along the street. Luckily, there are free bicycles to borrow from the service counter with your documents like passports or Id card. We lent two bikes, though we are two adults with one child. The bike is no seat for child, so my wife carried my child on his back, is it funny?

We really enjoyed the bike on the road. Compare to Xiamen, there are few traffic on the road, air is fresh and we can ride slowly and enjoyed the green landscape along the road.

The tunnel is very long and we take 20 minute to walk though the tunnel. The exit is at the other side of the village and there is a famous Stone Lion beside the exit. Stone Lion is the symbol of Kinmen. You can see this symbol in Kinmen everywhere.
